Next Ladies ride.....and other events

Regular events through the year

The Chester Fabulous Ladies are part of Chester CTC, in turn part of Chester & North Wales Cycling UK (C&NW).  Therefore, there are more rides and events through the year that you can join in with.  None of our rides or events are races, but some do have a competitive element!

January 1st is the chance to meet and enjoy a short ride to lunch, to meet other groups in C&NW.  If you are up to it, that is!

March / April sees the first event in the calendar, the Spring 50.  This has been held from Farndon in the last few years, and is the 'early season' tourist ride.  You have 4 or 5 hours to complete 50 miles, planned as two loops out, returning to Farndon for lunch and at the end.  Another chance to meet people from other clubs and groups.

May is time for the treasure hunt and map reading competitions.  You can enter one or both of these events, which are fun informal rides with clues.  Often organised in conjunction with Cymru Cycling UK, they are usually just over the border, giving a new set of lanes.  The clues are devious! The map reading entails finding the location of a set of places on the map, then riding to as many as you can for points.

Ladies weekend, the date/ month varies from year to year, but we usually choose a lovely cycling area and stay in a hostel.  This gives the option of self catering, pub meals, and a variety of rides or sightseeing or walks - whatever you want to do.

June is the home of the Bob Clift Cheshire Cycleway Rides, set up by Bob from Chester CTC back in 1986, from a route he devised the previous year.  100 or 50 mile options usually (we have had 25 miles in the past).  There is a facebook page for this, with updates and information through the year.

September, and we are heading towards the end of the season.  C&NW chair, known as our president, organises a ride and lunch, with presentation of a few trophies for riders and volunteers, the venue alternates between North Wales and Cheshire and is another opportunity to meet friends from other clubs (eg Mold, Wrexham, Two Mills at Eureka cafe, Bangor, Caernarfon)

The final event of the year is the hill climb and freewheel competitions in October - low key and informal they count towards the Tourist Competition (which has been won by C&NW for several years!).  Setting off individually at minute intervals, there is a sneaky mile long climb (fastest climber wins) and then also one at a time we are set off down another hill to freewheel as far as you can (the trick is staying on as long as possible!).

We have a full programme of Sunday rides, two a month, please see Chester blog for more information
